Lisa Marie Schmitt – born 1991 in Trier, is a visual artist and filmmaker. She works in extensive bodies of work that explore socio-political themes. At the core of her practice is usually an artistic film, accompanied by sculptures, objects, and photographs. After studying at HBK Saar, she received a residency grant at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris. She was awarded the Global scholarship by the Berlin Senate Department in 2021, as well as a working grant from Stiftung Kunstfonds in 2023. Her works have been presented in numerous group exhibitions, including at Arp Museum and Brücke-Museum Berlin. Her most recent solo exhibitions took place, among others, at Goethe-Institut Bulgaria and Galeria Posibiliă in Bucharest. Since 2018, Lisa Marie Schmitt has been living and working in Berlin and regularly realizes artistic projects in Romania.

Connection to Rhineland-Palatinate

“I was born in Trier in 1991 and spent my entire childhood and youth in the region. I still feel closely connected to many places there. Today I live and work in Berlin and Bucharest and am very pleased to present my artistic work for the first time in my hometown.”
