The Local
Discover the artistic diversity of the host city
“The Local” of the Rhineland-Palatinate Triennale 2026 highlights the artistic quality and cultural plurality of Trier. It brings together professional voices, unique spaces, and vibrant impulses from the city, integrating them directly into the broader context of the Triennale.
The Local is conceived as an organic extension of the festival: while the Triennale provides the overarching framework, The Local opens up the city for artistic participation, local networks, and new forms of visibility. In doing so, it creates a dialogue between Trier’s historical depth, contemporary art, and its local scene—a dynamic interplay that enriches residents, artists, and visitors alike.
Our aim is to make the cultural identity of the host city visible and to connect it with curated positions from across Rhineland-Palatinate. The Local creates spaces of possibility for new alliances, collaboration, and exchange between regional scenes. Culture becomes tangible as a public space: the city itself turns into a stage where local actors and their work are brought into view and where new formats can emerge collectively. The networks formed, new formats developed, and lasting impulses generated will remain in the city and in people’s minds beyond the Triennale—fostering long-term cultural diversity and collaboration.
