The Rhineland-Palatinate Triennale changes its venue every three years, focusing on a central location in the state. In 2026, the first Triennale will be hosted in Trier – the oldest city in Germany with all its cultural facets.

The application phase ran until 1 September 2025 – open to both classical and experimental works, interdisciplinary approaches, new perspectives, participatory formats and space-related concepts.

Art from here
Around 50 artists who live, were born or studied in Rhineland-Palatinate represent the artistic quality and creative diversity of the state in various forms and media; visual, multimedia, site-specific. The exhibition places artistic creation at the center of our society.

Art in focus
The Rhineland-Palatinate Triennale will take place in central locations in Trier such as the Landesmuseum, the TUFA and the Kunsthalle. The established art institutions will be complemented by additional venues and open spaces in public areas as well as selected archaeological sites where history and the present come together. Participatory formats, interdisciplinary approaches and site-specific projects expand the exhibition experience and open up access to art for a wide audience.

Art for all
The Triennale focuses on cultural education, participation and inclusion. Workshops, hands-on activities and an extensive accompanying program invite people of all backgrounds to actively encounter art and promote social dialogue and cultural participation. To this end, the Triennale cooperates with local initiatives and associations. Would you also like to take part in our accompanying program with an with a contribution or an activity?
