The Rhineland-Palatinate Triennial 2026 shows what the contemporary art scene in Rhineland-Palatinate has to offer – innovative, diverse, visible.

The Rhineland-Palatinate Triennial changes its venue every three years, focusing on a central location in the state. In 2026, the first Triennial will be hosted in Trier – the oldest city in Germany with all its cultural facets.

Are you an artist with a connection to Rhineland-Palatinate? Then we look forward to receiving your application!

The application phase for around 50 artistic positions will begin on July 18, 2025 – open to both classic and experimental works, interdisciplinary approaches, new perspectives, participatory formats and spatial concepts.

Exhibitions will be held at prominent locations, including the Kunsthalle Trier, the TUFA and in public spaces. The variety of Roman excavation sites offers another unique opportunity – after all, all roads lead to Trier.

Whether you want to take part, find out more or report on it – you can find all the important information about the upcoming Triennial here.

Art in focus
The Rhineland-Palatinate Triennial will take place in central locations in Trier such as the Landesmuseum, the TUFA and the Kunsthalle. The established art institutions will be complemented by additional venues and open spaces in public areas as well as selected archaeological sites where history and the present come together. Participatory formats, interdisciplinary approaches and site-specific projects expand the exhibition experience and open up access to art for a wide audience.

Art for all
The Triennial focuses on cultural education, participation and inclusion. Workshops, hands-on activities and an extensive accompanying program invite people of all backgrounds to actively encounter art and promote social dialogue and cultural participation.
